Please use the following format for your Reader's Response Journals.

Reading Goal: What is one specific action you can take this week to improve as a reader?

Examples:
  • I will look up words I don't understand while I'm reading or write them down to look up later.
  • I will find a quiet place to read so I won't be so easily distracted.
  • I will find a more challenging book to read this week.

Documentation of Reading: Document a minimum of two hours of independent reading each week. Reading may include magazine or newspaper articles and up to one hour of required reading from another course.

Date / Title / Author / Pages / Time

New or Interesting Words: Take note of a minimum of two words that you don't know or are unfamiliar to you. You may also include words that stand out to you, create a vivid or powerful image, or are words you'd like to use in your own writing and conversation. Include a definition of each word.

Word / Definition

Reading Response: More than a summary, responses should include your thoughts on what you have read. Entries should be a full page in length. If you have read more than one book or article, you may respond to one or all of your readings.

Reader's Response Journals are due at the end of the period every Monday or the first day of the week. Journal entries may not be turned in late or resubmitted for a better grade.
